extrasPackage Deals! Buy One Get One Free! Premium Bundles! You’ve been bombarded with these types of promotions frequently by various service providers. You’ll be sold lots of extras until you finally make your purchase. There are always so many extras and variations that it’s hard to tell which one you need.

T.V.: With any sort of viewing package, any cable or satellite provider will have specific packages suited for different types of viewers. Going with any sort of cable or satellite plan can save you a good amount of money each month. But if you’re not willing to go that far, you can still save some by buying exactly what you need. If the basic channels are enough for you, you won’t need all the extra movie channels if you’re paying for it. You can skip out on the HD channels if you don’t have a HDTV.

Phones: There’s a variety of plans offered by phone companies. You can vary the minutes, texting, and data. Smartphones may be popular right now, but if you’re just using it just to make standard phone calls, you can save a lot just by getting a free phone with a contract. You should watch your minutes to see if you’re on the right plan. Paying for a landline and a cell phone may not be the best choice for you either. If you find yourself never using your landline, and it just ends up being a gateway for telemarketers, you might be able to save some money by getting rid of it.

Internet: Cable, DSL, and fiber optics, at least one of these will be available to you. For casual internet browsers just reading various blogs and websites, the slowest speed could work for you. You will most likely need a higher speed for downloading music, streaming movies, and playing games. You may also want to consider higher speeds if you live with others as well.

Feel it out: Plans will vary depending on where you live and who you live with, you will need to experiment with each one until you can find a balance that works for you. But doing so will keep you from wasting money on extra parts of your plan that you aren’t using.
