garbageHow many times have you walked past a garbage can full of money? I bet you would be surprised to learn that every can you walk by is filled with unclaimed cash. That’s right, you can easily turn your trash into cash with a little bit of work and know how.

Before you decide to toss out your unused or broken electronics, gadgets, furniture, lawn mowers, snow blowers, or any other big ticket item, use these tips to turn that garbage into cold hard cash.

Start surfin’: The internet has a wide variety of options to sell your unwanted items that otherwise would end up in the trash. Buy My Tronics and Gazelle are cool sites because not only can you sell working electronics, but broken ones too! So gather up those broken cell phones, iPods, and game consoles, and collect your cash.

While these sites are great for broken electronics, you might get a bigger bang for your working items on Craigslist or EBay. You can also sell your broken items like lawn mowers or snow blowers to people who want them for parts or fixing them for resale.

Sell your yard: Yard sales are perfect for getting rid of the clutter that will most likely end up in the trash anyway. Try to get other families involved because when it turns into a subdivision sale you are likely to have more customers walking around your “store”. Just remember you’re not trying to get rich, just make some extra cash, so don’t price the items as if they were brand new. Most likely you’re not going to sell a twenty year old lawn mower for a hundred bucks. Mark it down to twenty dollars and you’ll get rid of it faster than you can say Money Lounge.

Pawn it off: Take your items to the local pawn shop to see what they will buy from you. These are a great one stop shop when you are looking to make a little cash and clear up the clutter from your house. Pawn Shop Listings is a great site for locating a pawn shop in your area.

Selling your broken or unused items is a great way to put some extra cash in your pocket and get the clutter out of the house. So give your garbage worker a break and turn that trash into cash.

How much have you earned from selling broken or unused items?
